 Winter Wonderland

What a wonderful welcome back we had after the Christmas break to our own winter wonderland! The children in The Orchard had a great time exploring the snow both inside and outside of the classroom and this led beautiful into our topic for the half term of 'The Five Senses'. We have explored all five our senses through stories, art, and sensory activities. We especially enjoyed exploring paint using different tools and textures and trying food items that ranged from bitter and sour to salty and sweet. We put all of our senses to the test on environmental walks around school - there were some lovely smells leading up to lunchtime!

Safeguarding Week and Internet Safety Day

During Safeguarding Week, we had daily class discussions around the ‘Question of the Day’. The children were amazing at answering questions such as ‘What should you do if a worry won’t go away?’ or ‘Who are your trusted adults?’ We also discussion scenarios that should happen in private (going to the toilet) and those that can be in public (watching TV).

We followed this work up on Internet Safety Day when we looked at the type of information that is and isn’t safe to share online.

Recently, we had a special assembly in class where we were introduced to the NSPCC ‘PANTS’ song which reminded us all that our pants cover what is private to us and that if we feel uncomfortable or worried, we should speak to a trusted adult. To help remember the ‘PANTS’ message, we spent time decorating our own funky pants!

Pancake Day Races

Smiles were seen all around the Orchard playground during the annual Pancake Race; even the staff got involved! Not only did the children show some great athletic skills, they really impressed with their perseverance trying to flip the pancakes!

Science Day 2026

The children in The Orchard thoroughly enjoyed Science Day. They loved watching the chemical reactions taking place. The favourite was definitely the foaming vinegar when the bicarbonate of soda was added!

World Book Day 2026

On World Book Day, our classroom was buzzing with excitement as children arrived in their cosy pyjamas or dressed as characters from Oliver Twist! We spent the day diving into the famous story by Charles Dickens, reading parts of the book and watching a fun cartoon version that brought the characters to life. The excitement didn’t stop there – we even had the school panto live-streamed straight into our classroom!

The children also became history detectives, exploring how life today is different from the time of Oliver Twist. They looked closely at the clothes people wore and discovered how schools operated very differently back then. It was a fantastic day full of stories, fun and learning.

Stories from Around the World

During our Spring 2 English sessions, we have been listening to stories countries around the world. We have so far visited countries in the continents of Asia, Africa and Europe. Our topic sessions have continued our learning, finding out more about the amazing places that our stories have been set.

Lighthouse Multi Academy Trust

We are a group of schools, working together to support, guide and inspire our children through their educational journey.
